About

When we first began discussing the idea of Hope Harvest, we did not realize just how prevalent hunger and food insecurity were in our area. A few weeks after our initial discussions and plans, the American and world economies began to back-pedal, creating even more need in a very short period of time. It seemed logical to us that, as members of this community, it was our responsibility to help in whatever way we could. In the South, there is a long tradition of neighbors helping neighbors, of people depending on and counting on the folks around them for support in tough times. We aim to uphold this tradition and support our neighbors during lean times.

Our Mission:

Hope Harvest, Inc. will provide, at low- or no-cost, locally grown produce and/or monetary donations to local food banks and hunger initiatives.

Our Goal:

To reduce hunger and provide food-security for our local Northeast Georgia community while farming sustainably and responsibly.

Our Timeline:

Immediate:

By spring 2009, we aim to have working relationships with food banks within the area, concentrating mainly on Banks, Clarke, Hall, and Jackson Counties. We should produce approximately 10,000 pounds of fresh produce with which to supply food banks within these counties.

Future:

We would like to see Hope Harvest grow into a yearlong producing farm by incorporating fall gardens and greenhouses. We would like to branch out and have farms, large or small, in separate counties to allow us to better address the needs of each particular area. We would like to develop a large volunteer base, comprised of passionate people who want to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. We want to form strong relationships with members of our community to reinforce the idea of community support and mutual respect. We want to eventually move to organic production methods to reduce the impact of our farms on our world community.

We are currently pursuing state incorporation which will allow us to seek federal non-profit status. Please note, Hope Harvest is not currently a recognized tax-exemt organization.

We have big plans for Hope Harvest and sincerely hope that you will join us in our fight against hunger!
